About The Book...
Five women, five lives, five secrets. Each woman is battling her own personal demons, and hiding a secret from her friends and family.
Each of them envying one another's life, wishing her life was different, wishing she had what the other woman had. But what happens when what appears to be real, is all a façade? Battling breast cancer, single parenthood, infidelity, the loss of a child, and managing the single life, can become overwhelming for these ladies.
Not satisfied with their lives, looking for something better, they contemplate alternative choices to improve their lives; crossing over to the other side of the fence is a very real possibility. They can't see beyond the choices they make, but they must be held accountable for them.
And after they have crossed the fence, they realize two things simultaneously. Yes, the grass was greener on the other side; and their grass could have been just as green, had they taken care of it.
Heart, Mind, Body & Soul...
They lay back on the bed watching TV for over an hour before falling asleep. It was dark when they awoke cradled in one another’s arms. The red LED lights on the digital clock next to the bed read 9:37.
He began kissing her again and sat up the moment that he felt his control slipping.
“What’s wrong, Pierce,” she asked, fearing she had done something wrong.
“Baby, I can’t lie. I want you so damn bad right now, I can’t hardly resist you. But I would be wrong to take advantage of you. Like I said, I know I created this situation here,” he said, waving his arms around to indicate the hotel room, “but, with all you got going on in your life, I don’t wanna be just another issue. When I asked you out here, I promised myself I wouldn’t do anything more than enjoy spending time alone with you, if that’s what you wanted.” Pierce breathed in a deep sigh and then exhaled, running his right hand across his head and down his face to relieve the stress he was feeling.
Courtney had gotten off the bed and come around the side to stand in front of him.
“But I want you to break that promise, I want to be taken advantage of, Pierce, I’m begging you,” she said as she began to pull her shirt up.
But he stopped her and pulled it back down clasping her hands between his own.
“Look, girl, if something goes further between us, I need to know that you’re ready. And just because I might be, it doesn’t mean you are. I just think that if we don’t control this thing, someone’s gonna get hurt. You’ve endured enough hurt and I can’t stand the thought of messing up what could be a good thing. Baby, you’ve got loose ends at home that need to be tied up. You’re still married and I can’t get past that. We creep around having lunch and phone conversations that you wouldn’t want anyone to know about. And I may be wrong to even bring you out here like this, but I’m human too. I ain’t here to add to no one’s pain. But you know I can’t make that decision, you gotta be ready.” He stood up and pulled her off the bed and kissed her deeply.
“Pierce, I do want you, baby. I love you, too, I really do. I just want you to make love to me tonight. I don’t have anywhere I have to be, please take me,” she pleaded.
“I can’t…I know you’re not ready,” he said.
“Yes, I am,” she replied.
Despite her love for her husband, she knew she was doing the right thing. She didn’t know if there was anything left for them to salvage anymore, or if she even wanted to. She had tried so hard to make things right between the two of them and he had brushed off her every attempt. She still hurt over the loss of their baby, but she didn’t deserve to be punished. And now here this beautiful, fine, sexy ass man stood in front of her. What was she to do? She didn’t know the answer to all of that, but what she did know was that she wasn’t going anywhere tonight. She was going to stay right here and be loved like the woman she was, and deal with the rest in the morning.
