1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged." Matthew 7:1 That Scripture goes on to say: "2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye." I shared that Scripture today because I have been bothered by all of the back and forth politics on social media, surrounding the current presidential campaign. Typically, I am able to overlook most of the comments in a dismissive manner. However, I saw one that really disturbed me this weekend. Not because of the stance the person was taking, but more so how judgmental the post was regarding people who would choose to vote for the opposing candidate. The post went on to call people out on their spiritual beliefs, and I personally felt that was not the route that we as "Christians," may want to go. I believe everyone is entitled to their beliefs and choices. After all, the Lord gives each of us free will. You may not agree with my beliefs, and I may not agree with yours, but that does not mean that neither you, nor I love our Lord any less. As Christians we are called to make a stand on certain issues, but we're also called to love one another as He loved us. Casting stones and questioning another's spirituality may not communicate a loving attitude towards others. This entire campaign has been more denigrating than any I have ever seen, and I'm not just referencing the candidates. I have seen actions and behaviors in people that leaves me saddened. Personally, I am not excited about either candidate that's up for election. Yet, I have a civic duty to perform, which I intend to do wholeheartedly. However, your freedom to vote for your candidate of choice is yours alone. That's why we have been blessed to live in this great nation. Regardless of whom you choose, it is not my right to question your spiritual beliefs. And I won't love you any less. Thoughts?
