"Nobody's a natural. You work hard to get good and work to get better. It's hard to stay on top." Paul Coffey. One of my major concerns with starting a new position was not finding the time to write and promote my books anymore. I knew that the weekends would still provide me time to get some writing in, but I struggle with the balance of writing, marketing, and spending time with my family. Of course, my family wins out every time. Therefore, I cannot get frustrated if sales lag. I cannot get frustrated if I fail to rise to the top at work. If I fail to work hard, and harder, and harder I cannot become disappointed if I don't see growth and progression. If my attitude has become complacent and I have settled for just enough, why should I be disappointed? It doesn't matter how good you do something, there's always someone out there better than you, or offering a variation of what you have to offer. If you don't continue to improve your processes, learn new methods to doing what you do, and up your A game, you're going to lag behind and that's just a fact of life. You can never become complacent with where you are in your work if you want to continue to grow. Whether it's a dream you're pursuing (like me & my books), or if it's your career (me in HR) you must always find a way to improve your learning, understanding, talent, and skill sets to be competitive, to be better than good enough, and to simply be the best you can be. Be prepared to sign up for workshops, attend seminars, participate in webinars, ask the questions, put in the work, and improve yourself. Don't allow fear to stifle your growth and force you to become paralyzed. You can be great at whatever you do, because there is greatness within you. But you must be willing to put in the work! It's another Motivational Monday Moment! While it is Labor Day, you can still put in the work. Work at being the best you that you can be.
