The Lunch Date...

Hi Gorgeous People!

Sooo...last week I dropped the ball and didn't share this out on social media as planned. I didn't realize it until last Thursday, as my weeks are crazy now.

So Here Goes...

*****************************************************************
It's another #writerwednesday and I'm dropping a line from my WIP, A Womans Design: Afflictions. It's slated to be released at the end of this year. I hope you enjoy...

It seemed at times the clock stopped altogether that day at work, as time dragged on. My eyes glanced up at the clock a few minutes after eleven and I couldn’t take it anymore. Business was really slow and I had no appointments scheduled. I pulled out my cell phone and closed the door to my office.
Changing my mind I walked to my desk and picked up the office phone. I didn’t want my cell phone number to pop up on his caller ID. I had thrown his business card away, after saving his number in my phone under a false name. I dialed the number I had saved under Weight Loss two weeks ago. I shook my head at my ridiculousness. Eric had a habit of checking my phone, even though I had never given him reason to.

“Hello?” came that sexy voice.

“Hi, it’s Ambiance.”

“Hey, I’m glad you decided to hit me up. Did you enjoy yourself that night?” he asked.

My insides were quivering, his voice was so sexy. It caressed me up and down like silk on soft skin after a fresh bath. Mmphh. Breathe Ambiance, breathe girl. I coached myself. It felt good to have someone looking forward to hearing from me. And I could tell in his voice that he wanted to hear from me.

“Umm yeah,” I managed to squeak out. Now that I had done the deed, I was trembling. What was I going to say? I had not put too much thought into it.

“So, what’s going on with you today?” he asked.

“Well, just a little work and not too much of anything else. I was thinking, I really appreciate you inviting me to the dinner. I had lunch with one of the ladies that I met that night, and I have three meetings scheduled with a three gentlemen you introduced me to. I think these contacts will take my business to the next level. So, I wanted to take you to lunch to thank you for the opportunity.”

Yeah, that sounded good. I hadn’t known why I wanted to call him other than to hear his voice. But this excuse sounded as good as any.

“Well, I’m glad it worked out for you. That’s what it was all about. And I would love to have lunch with you,” he confessed with a slight chuckle.

I knew he was thinking about how hard he had tried to get me to go to lunch previously. But I wouldn’t give him the time of day.

“Okay, well do you have any particular day in mind?”

“How about today? It’s good for me if it’s good for you,” he declared.

“Sounds good. I usually go at 12:30.”

“Can you get away early today, and perhaps for an extended lunch?”

I thought about my calendar. I had no meetings scheduled that day. This would be perfect, because I could skip out for lunch and get back in time to head home for the day. We had two other personal shoppers on duty that day. I wouldn’t be missed I reasoned.

“Sure, that won’t be a problem,” I confirmed. “Where do you want me to meet you at?” I asked, grabbing a pencil to jot down any notes or directions.

“I’ll be there to pick you up in about 10 minutes, is that cool?”

I panicked, “Um no.” People at the boutique knew that I was married. How would I explain Nick’s constant popping up at the boutique? There were only so many clothes a man would come to buy for his mother and aunt, before people started getting suspicious. Not to mention I didn’t want to explain getting into a car with some tall, dark and sexy man, driving a nice whip.

“Are you sure? I don’t mind picking you up.”

“No, thanks. I’ll be fine driving myself. Where do you want to meet?”

“Let’s go to the Shepherd’s Place,” he said, referring to an upscale restaurant three blocks from my job.

I didn’t know if he planned to pay, or if we were paying for our own meals. Well after all we were only friends right?

There wasn’t anything going on that shouldn’t be. So of course I would pay for my own meal. Just because he had paid for both of our coffees that night meant nothing. There went my shopping money for this paycheck. I was a clothes horse, and had to buy at least two outfits every paycheck, a handbag and a pair of shoes. The Shepherd’s place didn’t cost quite that much, but it was definitely not cheap.

“Okay. I’ll meet you there in say 10?”

“Alright, pretty lady. I’ll see you there,” he said in that voice that made my insides quiver.

I hung up my office phone, grabbed my purse, phone, and keys and headed for the door.

“Peggy, I’m taking an early lunch. I should be back in about a couple of hours,” I told the assistant.

“Sure, Ambiance. Do you want me to reschedule your lunch date with Marc and Sharon?” Peggy knew that Marc and Sharon quite often popped up to get me on their way to lunch. She was the keeper of both mine and Angelique’s calendar as well.

I had forgotten all about our lunch date. Oh well, I would hook up with them another time. “That would be great, Peggy. Just see if they can reschedule for tomorrow. Tell them I had an important meeting.”

“Sure,” she said with a smile. She was a very reserved and professional older lady. Before Nick told me he had attained very personal information about me from her, I would have said she didn’t gossip.

Peggy was efficient at the work she did keeping me organized, preparing my materials for every meeting, and producing timely reports.

I fast stepped down the hallway to the back of the boutique and made my way into the ladies restroom. Slipping in, I locked the door behind me. I checked my image in the mirror to make sure everything was on point. I wore my naturally wavy jet black hair in a ponytail. I pressed my full red lips together. My Relentlessly Red M.A.C lipstick was holding up smooth as usual. My eyes were flawless and my makeup only enhanced them. I turned around in the mirror to check out my style. I wore a black, short sleeved dress today, which stopped just a few inches above my knees. And those oh so beautiful sexy, red heels that adorned my size 6 feet, made my calves pop, along with other unmentionables. Yes, your girl was looking fierce.

Subconsciously, I had dressed with the thought that I just might see Nick today. I tucked my little red and black purse under my arm and trotted out the bathroom.

Hopping in my 2010 Mint green Camry, I started feeling the first flaring of my nerves. To quell the feeling and the second guessing of myself I popped in my Dru Hill CD. It wasn’t long before Jazz began belting out the words to Never Make A Promise. Mm-hmm, that’s what Eric used to sing, but he didn’t keep any of his promises.

I quickly popped out the Dru Hill CD and placed another one of their CDs in, Enter The Dru and selected Beauty. Yeah, that’s more like it. I opened up my purse and searched for a piece of gum or some mints. I came across some watermelon gum and popped a piece in my mouth. Mmm, so juicy and flavorful. Whew! That’s not the thought I wanted to have. For some reason lately, my mind had a habit of wandering into places it had no business. I put the car in drive and pulled out of my parking space as I bobbed my head. This was more like it.

My heart picked up its pace the closer I got to the restaurant. It wasn’t long before I pulled up and parked right next to his charcoal beauty. I didn’t know the model of whip he drove, but it sure was pretty.

I hopped out and secured the locks. Just as I was preparing to head in the direction of the restaurant, I heard my name. “Ambiance.” I would know that voice anywhere. There went my heart and everything else. How could someone I didn’t know and had just met have such an effect on me? It had to be the issues I was going through at home with Eric.

I turned around and a smile involuntarily took over my face. Nick was standing there in black slacks, a white open collared shirt, and a black jacket thrown carelessly over his shoulder. That was one fine man, if I could say so myself. And I was definitely saying so.

Beautiful As You Are...

“You are more powerful than you know; you are beautiful just as you are.” ~ Melissa Etheridge

When I read this quote, the first thing that came to mind was how much money and time we spend on cosmetics, hair, and other artificial motivators to beautify ourselves. I am definitely guilty of this.

Why can't we learn to love ourselves as we are? Why do we worry so much about what others think of us? Why are we inclined to remake our image into what we believe society says it should be?

At some point in our lives we brought into the socialistic hype that we are supposed to fit into the image of the models we see on TV, magazines, and billboards. Our thoughts about what is beautiful and acceptable are not molded by the image we see in the mirror. And oftentimes not even the image of the women around us; rather the stereotypical model that is pushed upon us from an early age.

Why am I on this rant? My daughter has a friend who's already under the harsh glare of the female role models in her life, who says she shouldn't eat this, and she can't eat that, and she MUST limit her portions so that she will remain rail thin. This led into a conversation between my daughter and I about how often adults push their theory of what's acceptable onto children, to the point many teenagers are becoming bulimic and anorexic to fit into the stereotypical mold. My daughter pointed out that many parents don't realize it until it's too late.

The only way we can teach our daughters to love themselves and just be the best they can be one day at a time, is by setting the example. Are we loving ourselves? Are we being the best we can be daily? Are we projecting an image of self-love, self-acceptance, and humility?

More often than not, I'm sad to say that I don't. Yes, I embraced my naturalista style in terms of my hair approximately three years ago. And I love it. I'm not on a diet craze, although it would do me well to work out. However, I don't abstain from the makeup. I refuse to leave the house without it on most days. Lately, I've begun to challenge myself to leave it all behind, and step out of the house carefree. Those days...my children believe that's my most gorgeous self. My husband? He loves me either way, as long as I'm happy.

What say you? Are you being the best you that you can be? Or do you conform to society's standards of what is accepted as beautiful?

We should not give up and we should not allow the problem to defeat us.
A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

Challenges will arise in our lives in spiritual or physical forms. No matter what obstacles present themselves we cannot give up. We must stand strong against adversity and overcome it all to accomplish the task before us.

My husband and I are currently working on a project that has presented more than enough challenges. Scheduling conflicts, internal clashes, and minor and major changes are just some of the obstacles that have arisen. It has definitely thrown our timeline off, and though I have been tempted, we will not give up.

Defeat and giving up is not an option. No one ever promised the road to achieving our dreams would be easy. Recognizing our dreams and outlining them are just the beginning of the journey. Once you know what you must do to obtain it you've only just begun, because that's when the hard work comes in. Regardless of the adversity you face from people, finances, time, health, or any other conflict never give up on you. Know that the Lord God has ordained you for a specific person on this earth. He will equip you with every resource to accomplish them.

The challenges you face along the way are just minor blips on the larger radar called life. They're designed to strengthen and empower you. Perhaps, even greater they're designed so that someone watching you go through it may grow and be ministered to in the mist of your obstacle.

Dream. Believe. Stay focused. Put the work in. Before you realize it, you will be living your dream.

It's been another Motivational Monday Moment. Have a blessed and courageous week.

Noble Surrender! Featuring Té Russ...

It's Sensational Saturday and I'm excited that my girl from Texas is here again. If you missed yesterday's post, she's giving us another glimpse of her latest novel, Noble Love. She's always got something sweet and spicy cooking  up in the pages of her books...and this one is no different. Don't you just love the cover? Well you're gonna get heated from the book cover.

About the book:
He's one of the hottest celebrity chefs in Vegas. But when 'bad boy' Ian Noble returns home to Sweet Rapids, he meets his match in chemist Giselle Warren.

Giselle doesn't date 'bad boys'. Or co-workers. So of course when Ian shows up to help his family's business, her rules seem to fly right out of the window.

The harder they try and fight their passion, the hotter the sparks become. And when they finally combust, neither of them is prepared for the path they end up on.

Excerpt:

Giselle was in the supply closet late one night, when she heard the door open. Ian walked in and smiled at her.

"Hey."

"Hey," she replied, and then rushed toward him, eyes wide. The heavy can of argan oil she'd been using to keep the door propped open shifted. "Ian! Don't let the door close! It's..."

Ian turned quickly, but wasn't quick enough.

"Broken."

"What?" he asked. "Broken?"

He reached for the doorknob and jiggled it.

"Stand back," he said.

"What are you going to do, Ian?" Giselle asked.

"I'm going to try and force it open."

Giselle chuckled and took a step back. Ian was obviously strong, from the muscles that bulged beneath his shirt, but she didn't think that even he was a match against the steel door. Ian slammed his shoulder against the door, but it didn't budge. After a few tries, he banged on the door.

"Ian, everyone else is gone." She looked at her phone. "The night guard won't be through for a few hours."

Ian sighed and turned to face her, his back pressed against the door.

"I'm sorry about getting us stuck in here."

"I've been in worse predicaments," she murmured as she scrolled through her phone. Maybe she could call Thomas. "Damn, no signal."

"I guess your boyfriend won't be coming to save the day then."

Giselle looked up at Ian, confused. "Boyfriend?"

Ian gave her a knowing look and she rolled her eyes, agitated. "I already told you. There's nothing going on between Thomas and me."

"Does he know that?" Ian asked, propping one foot against the door and crossing his arms across his chest.

"Of course he knows that."

"You keep going out with him nearly every day, you may be sending him mixed signals."

"It's just lunch. And we're co-workers. I go out with other co-workers for lunch all of the time."

"You haven't gone out with me for lunch."

"You haven't asked," Giselle said.

"And you haven't offered," Ian replied.

Giselle sighed. "Why do you care so much? Are you jealous or something?"

"Of Walsh?" Ian laughed. "Not in this lifetime. Or the next."

"Why are you so concerned about how I spend my time with him then?"

Ian pushed off of the door and walked toward her.

"Because Thomas Walsh is a no good son of a bitch and if you can't see that, then maybe you aren't as smart as everyone says you are."

"Fuck you, Ian."

He was in her face now, and getting on her nerves.

And turning her on at the same time.

His mouth spread into a wolfish grin. "Are you finally offering?"

"Finally offering'?" she repeated.

The nerve of his arrogant ass. So what if it was true that she desired Ian in a way that she'd never desired any other man before?

She stood there, glaring at him as her body grew more and more aroused every second that passed with him watching her like he could read her mind.

She wanted to smack that grin off of his face.

But instead, she found herself letting out a growl as she lunged at him. And crushed her lips to his.

The Giver of Gifts...

8/15/2016

Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15

We are all blessed with gifts from the Lord on high. They come to us in various formats both spiritual and natural gifts. For instance I have diverse spiritual gifts, but one of them is the gift of exhortation. This spiritual gift is to encourage, comfort, console, and counsel others to be the best that they can be and to be all that the Lord has called them to be. "If it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully." Romans 12:8.

Alternatively, my natural gift is to write. This is something that I enjoy as well as the other gifts I have been endowed with. Yet, regardless if the gift is spiritual or natural I understand that it is nothing that I can do of my own accord. It is given to me from the Lord and it is because of Him that I am able to accomplish what I can.

Oftentimes, I am made aware of this stark reality when I fail to do some of the most simple things with the ease that I believe I can. It is in these times that I have to rely fully on the Lord to accomplish what I should be able to do. Yet, I also understand that in these times I usually am weak for one of two reasons. One, the Lord is working to make my spirit humble so that I never become arrogant and boastful in the things that He is doing in my life. They are gentle reminders that He is in control and He is the one operating inside of me. The second reason, is so that He can get the glory in a specific situation so that no one will doubt it was the Lord who did it through me.

I often find myself becoming more and more humble as I reflect on how He uses the gifts in me and what He has brought me through.

What gifts are you thanking the Lord for on this week? Remember it is nothing that you are doing of your own accord. He is the giver of all the beautiful gifts in your life. It's been another Motivational Monday Moment and I want to hear from you. Drop your comments below, friends. :)

Beautiful Vengeance: Every Murder Has a Purpose

Editorial Review
“In a day and age where acts of senseless violence are committed at an alarming rate, the only thing more frightening is the grave injustice on behalf of murdered victims as their killers continue to walk the streets. This lack of justice has created an atmosphere of despair which leads to resentment by those affected the most, to the point where they harbor a burning desire to take matters into their own hands. An eye for an eye, if you will.

Talented authors Perri Forrest and Jasmine Williams capture that revengeful spirit in "Beautiful Vengeance" as they take readers on an emotional journey in the dangerous West Oakland streets where innocent lives continue to be tragically affected by cops, gangs and the ones we trust the most.

The story begins with two sisters, Angel and Angelique Simmons, and their cousin Rikki, whom themselves mourn the loss of their mother and cousin Audrey Ellis after she was murdered years earlier in a hail of bullets. Audrey's killer remains free.

Years later, as the nonexistence of law and order continues to build in the city, the three deeply-afflicted and wounded women begin their own movement for social change. Sometimes the families of victims are able to reach deep down inside and forgive the perpetrators for their cowardly acts.

Other times, all it takes is another act of injustice before that burning desire turns into a flame. Enough is enough. There must be consequence. I consider "Beautiful Vengeance" to be a timely read in the face of all that takes place in society, today, with the Black Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter developments.

The truth is all lives matter: In life, and death, and most importantly revenge.

I enjoyed this book. As someone who has experienced the tragic loss of innocently murdered loved ones, I understand how it feels to be impacted by their deaths far greater than many know, especially when their killers haven't been brought to justice. To live every single day without harboring feelings of retribution in the back of your mind is a daunting task and even more disheartening when the perpetrators are knowingly and unknowingly among you.

"Beautiful Vengeance" offers a well-written, well-developed, action-packed and suspenseful thirty-eight chapters filled with strong and rounded characters that come to life and death. The general premise of the story is sometimes you must take matters or better yet, revenge, into your own hands."

Two Amazon bestselling fiction authors came together to pen a riveting novel about family, love, loss, and the levels of passion they can all evoke. “Beautiful Vengeance” is not your average story and is guaranteed to draw a plethora of emotions from readers.

When twenty-seven year old Audrey Ellis died in a hail of bullets on the streets of Oakland, it was a horrific scene for everyone who witnessed it. But none were more devastated by the tragedy than, Angel and Angelique, her two daughters and Rikki, her younger cousin, who unfortunately, had front row seats as the deadly scene played out.

They say that time heals all pain...

But sometimes this maxim is not a ‘one-size fits all’. Years later, each of the girls, now women, have full lives and have managed to get beyond the pain of their loss . . . kind of. Most people who have lived through traumatic events have trigger points. And sometimes those trigger points can cause repressed emotions to brim to the surface at the most unexpected times . . .

Rikki, Angel, and Angelique have collectively found a way of soothing their deeply inflicted wound. They want to help. So, they’ve taken matters into their own hands and where the police have failed, they have succeeded. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with as they take it upon themselves to make sure that those who commit acts of senseless violence are served justice—vigilante justice.

But the driving force behind the girls’ mission is laced with secrets and betrayal. Way too many, in fact. And before long, the many complicated layers begin to peel leaving in its wake, more questions than answers. “Beautiful Vengeance” is a whirlwind story with something for everyone, and will keep readers guessing.

New Beginnings...

I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning. -J. B. Priestly
Today dawn's a new beginning for me. One which I have both longed and prayed for, for some time now. My seventeen year journey with one organization came to an end last week, while I embark on a new one today. I returned to college a few years ago to obtain my MBA to add to my Bachelor's in HRM. While the duties of prior roles have contained several HR tasks, my job was not an HR position. Today, I begin an HR role with a new company, which I pray will be a wonderful journey for both my family and myself.

Any new beginning brings a bit of nervousness. Today I am prepared to acclimate myself to a new organizational culture, learn new systems, a new role, and build new relationships. I look forward to this new journey in my life as I know through the hills and valleys it is sure to bring growth, and mold and shape me in new ways.

Your life will bring many challenges and obstacles; however, you will also face many new beginnings in this journey. Whatever your new beginning may be embrace it with a spirit of joy and expectancy. Change in and of itself is not a bad thing. In the change an opportunity for you to learn a new skill may exist. Perhaps, you will meet new people who are being brought into your life for a special season.

Bask in the joy of your new beginning, host an attitude of hope, and open your arms wide to live your best life ever!

Graphic artist Trinity Hargrove never knew real passion until she sleeps with her boss’s son. Mistake number one. Mistake number two…liking it too much. But they agreed to only one night. Simple enough, right? Wrong. He may be out of her bed, but their intense night together still burns in her memories. As long as she keeps her distance from the oh-so-desirable Xander Duval, everything will be okay. Unfortunately, fate won’t go along with her plan.

Restaurateur Xander Duval agrees to Trinity’s “one night” stipulation, but only in theory. He has no intentions of not being with her again. Especially when his mind—nor body—will allow him to forget the fire that blazed between them until the wee hours of the morning. When Trinity is injured in an automobile accident, he jumps at the opportunity to be her arms and legs. He plans to show her just how determined he is to make her his…for far longer than just one night.

Getting To Lonely Nights...

Have you ever met someone who got the essence of who you are? Someone who loved you heart and soul? Have you ever met someone who felt so right; they were an intricate part of your being? But, you were already connected to someone else. Someone who you've pledged your life to, until death do you part?

What happens when the love of your life and soul mate walks into your life, and he doesn't want to let you go? How do you handle it when his loving feels oh so right, but you know it's wrong?

When the one that she loves doesn't love her the way she needs him to in return, Davina steps outside the confines of the marriage. Seeking just a little comfort and friendship, the lines have blurred, and the rules are nonexistent.

IS THE GRASS REALLY GREENER? _ GETTING TO LONELY NIGHTS

She looked up into his eyes and felt herself melting all over again. It was difficult for her to deny him any request. But she knew she needed to get home; if she had been Spider Man she would swear her spidey senses were tingling.

“Keith I—”

“Just for one moment,” he said as he began trailing kisses down the side of her neck and rubbing his hands up and down her arms. She felt her arms moving up to wrap around his waist and then her head turned to the left to catch one of his kisses. Her heart beat a rapid staccato as she caught his mouth and opened hers to allow his tongue to probe inside.

His kisses turned her on and all she wanted now was to take her clothes off and make love to this beautiful man. What was he doing to her? How did she find herself in this moment? Right now she didn’t care about husband or kids; nothing mattered except sharing her body with this man.

She wanted and desired him. She needed him.

“Davina,” he whispered between kisses as he rubbed his hands over her breasts.

“Hmm,” she didn’t want his loving to stop.

“I don’t want to share you. I want you to be mine. I need you to be mine; I love you, sweetheart.”

If it was possible for her heart to stop beating, it would have. This was not what she was looking for. How could seeking friendship have turned into this? What did he mean, he didn’t want to share her? What was he asking of her?

She pulled back from his embrace and took a deep breath.

“What’s wrong?”

“All of this…what are you saying to me, Keith?”

“I’m saying I want more than just an affair. I want to be with you. Just you and me, not you running back and forth from me to your husband. I no longer want to sit around thinking about what you’re doing in the moments you’re not with me. I want to be able to call you on the phone and talk freely.”

She nodded her head because she knew he deserved all of that. It wasn’t fair what she was giving to him. She had not planned on having an affair or leaving her husband, either, for that matter.

She had been lonely at a difficult time in her life. She needed someone who really could understand her and reserve judgment. She couldn’t get that with the girls, and that’s what Keith had provided for her. But somewhere it all went wrong; it had become more than she anticipated.
